I was born and raised in O’Neill, NE and graduated from O’Neill High School. After high school, I graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Biological Sciences. Following completion, at UNL I went on to earn a Doctor of Optometry degree at the Southern California College of Optometry in 2010 and completed my residency program in New Mexico the year after. I have been practicing eye care in Lincoln, NE since 2011 and have been the owner and president of Eyes On Lincoln, Inc. for 6 years. Whether in the office or on the water, my life is all about “Eyes”.
My love and interest in the outdoors began at a very young age. As a kid, I spent almost all my time outside. It didn’t matter to me if I was on the banks of a farm pond catching panfish or on one of the great Midwest reservoirs chasing walleye. I felt like the water was my second home. I grew up fishing the Missouri River in southern and central South Dakota. As I grew up, walleye quickly became my favorite fish to target. I can’t explain why and most people that don’t do it or have never tried it don’t understand. They always present a challenge. One of the hardest things in my life was moving out of the Midwest to complete school. Fishing was definitely on hold for a few years.
Since moving back to the Midwest my fishing career has picked up fairly fast. I knew very little about the central and southern reservoirs and lakes of Nebraska. 2019 will be my 4th year of tournament fishing and it has been a great learning experience thus far. I have learned more about walleye fishing and specialized techniques in the last 4-5 years then I have in the last 30. It has been an awesome journey and I can truly say I have met some wonderful people. Without the help of some of these people and the support of my family, it would be next to impossible to learn what I have in such a short time. I am also blessed to fish with Wade Johnson as my partner. He is truly a joy to fish with and his personality and sense of humor are infectious. Wade can turn a bad day on the water into a fun experience.
In 3 years of competitive fishing, I have competed in the Nebraska Walleye Trail, Nebraska Walleye Association, AIM Pro Walleye Series, Masters Walleye Circuit and Cabela’s National Team Championship. I have 3 top-10 finishes and finished in the top 25 for the 2018 NTC in LaCrosse, WI to earn All-American Honors (out of 250 teams). We also cashed a nice check at the Masters Walleye Circuit event at Lake McConaughy.
I am truly blessed to have some great sponsors in my relatively young career and I am very thankful for their support and belief in me. They are as follows:
